The Origins

The generous vineyards, the sunlit hills, the poor, stony, calcareous soil and the tradition of making wine as nature intended for four generations accompany the history and the rise of the Benedetti family. Towards the end of the 1800’s Domenico Benedetti arrived on this land to cultivate grapes. Later Giuseppe Benedetti was the first to produce wine in these hills, followed by his son Adriano and then his grandchildren Simone and Matteo Benedetti. They are the fourth generation of winegrowers who today run the estate as a family business.

Since the mid 19th century, the Benedetti family has worked the land bringing together both traditional techniques and modernized, technologically advanced plantings. Through the years they have perfected the various phases of processing and vinifying the grapes and cultivating the land without ever resorting to chemical herbicides.

The family vineyards are located in the heart of the splendid Valpolicella, in the municipality of Negrar. It is a unique terrain, both for its position and quality. The vineyards are positioned on the hillside surrounded by terraces and stonewalls; they are always noted for high quality, originality and genuinity.

For more than a century on the parcels “La Permuta” and “Le Cortesele” the Benedetti family has scrupulously selected the grapes for the best wines: l’Amarone “La Permuta”, Recioto “La Permuta”. At one time the grapes used to produce these wines were used as currency amongst the winegrowers of the area, grapes necessary to make the best wines, like Valpolicella Ripasso.

The cellars of the Benedetti La Villa Estate guarantee the proper care and aging of the wines to satisfy even the most demanding palates. Among the Estate’s wines can be found all of the various styles from Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.G., Amarone della Valpolicella Classico “La Permuta” D.O.C.G., Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso D.O.C., Valpolicella Classico Superiore D.O.C., Valpolicella Classico D.O.C and Recioto della Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.G. The Estate also produces various red wines representing both the I.G.T. Veronese and Passiti I.G.T. del Veneto denominations.
